In the Manchester HippoPress, there is an interesting article on how New England-based universities are seeing great success online. Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) has 14,000 online enrollments this year alone. This just verfies what I posted last week in For-Profit Online Universities: The Path to Brand Differentiation - "local and public universities are catching up fast" to for-profits. Several years ago, for-profits would have enrolled many of these 14,000 students.
And the cost of schools like SNHU can be 40%+ lower than for-profits, standing at $30,000 for a full bachelor's program. This just reinforces that for for-profit online schools, offering degrees is not enough to remain viable. They will need to develop a strong and well-defined value proposition to survive in the years ahead.
